Yangon
Yangon is the capital city and it was main gateway to Myanmar. Population in Myanmar is about 7 Million and covers 400 sq miles. Yangon is ever-green and cool with lush tropical trees, shady parks and beautiful takes and sparkling beaches. Yangon was founded by King Alaungpaya when he conquered Lower Myanmar in 1755, on the site of small settlement called Dagon. The name of “Yangon” means “End of Strife”. Shwe Dagon Bagoda
Shwe Dagon Pagoda is the most significant and Historic pagoda of Myanmar, more than 2600 years ago and it had been built on the Singottara Hill. The ancient stupa towers almost 100 meters above the green cityscape of Yangon. The top of stupa is encrusted with thousands of diamonds, sapphires and rubies, eight hairs of the Buddha were enshrined, surrounded by hundreds of Buddhist temples, sacred stupas, within the precinct, where Buddhist pay their respect by offering flowers, pouring water over the different Buddha statues. Shwe Dagon situated at the north of central Yangon between People’s Park and Kandawgyi Royal Lake. The great Golden Shwedagon Pagoda is the huge landmark for miles around. Shwedagon pagoda is one of the wonders of the world and the earliest pagoda of Buddha Era. The Pagoda was renovated many times over the Centuries by various Myanmar Kings. A visit to Yangon would not be complete a time at the Shwedagon.
Sule Pagoda
Sule Pagoda lays octagonal stupa of “Mon” rea, amidst straight streets and it’s nearby Yangon City Hall and opposite to Maha Bandoola Park and the Independence Monument. The “Mon” name “Kyaik Athok”. It is the typical Burmese “Mon” style with four entrances, facing the four compass points. Sule Pagoda was built by Minister to the King of Thaton. Sule Pagoda is 152 feet high and said to be built over 2000 years and enshrined a Buddha relic hair and a distinct landmark of downtown and also a famous place with a shrine of spirit-worship called Nat-Nan. Surrounded by small shops and all the familiar non-religious service such as astrologers, palmists, photo studios and mini-stores etc,.
Botahtaung Pagoda
The Botahtaung Pagoda located near Botahtaung Jetty and on the Strand road. It stand about 40 meters ( 132 feet ) high and enshrined two of hair relics in this pagoda and a famous Land-mark on Yangon’s waterfront. "Bo" means "Military Leader" and "Tahtaung" means "one thousand", the "Botahtaung" Pagoda was named after the thousand military leaders who escorted relics of "Buddha" brought from India over 2,000 years ago. The Pagoda is bell shaped stupa. The festival of Botahtaung Pagoda held annually in December of Each year.
KaBarAye Pagoda
Kabaaye Pagoda means 'World Peace' pagoda. It situated about 11 km north of city center and built in 1954 and 111 feet high and around the base 34 meters. The significant of the Six World Buddhist Synod was held in large precinct. In the same precinct , the Buddhist Art Museum, Maha Pasana Cave and newly built Wizaya Mingala Dhammathabin Hall are located.
MahaPasanaCave
Maha Pasana Cave is a man-made cave and it is built for the Sixth Buddhist Council. It was held to coincide with the 2500th anniversary of the Buddha’s enlightenment. The structure of pagoda is no other like in Myanmar. It was covered to the relic’s chamber with iron beams as the tunnel. Five bronze Buddha Images are circling the relic’s chamber. There are also five entrances in the face of these images. At the upper part of the relic chamber, another 28 small gold-plated statues, representing the precious Buddha.
ChaukHtatKyi Pagoda
Chaukhtatgyi pagoda is the huge reclining Buddha and it is located 10 minutes away from downtown and well worth of visiting for its 70 meter long and 16 meter high statue. The pagoda is known as one of the largest Buddha reclining images in Myanmar. The head of Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda is pointing to the South and its holy head is supported by right hand. The reclining Buddha position is relaxing. The glass mosaic on the sole of its feet represents 108 special characteristics of the Buddha. The image was built in 1907, was demolished because of the climate in 1957 and reconstructed to this current structure in 1966. Many monasteries and the fortune-tellers on the surrounding platform offer astrological and palm readings.
Bogyoke Aung San Market
Bogyoke Aung San Market is situated in the heart of Yangon on Bogyoke Aung San Road, formerly known as Scott Market, established by the British in 1920 it is the most famous place for shopping in Yangon. It was named Scott Market after Mr. C. Scott, the then Municipal Commissioner. Nowadays, the name was changed to our national leader General Aung San who was assassinated in 1947. Myanmar arts and handicrafts are best souvenirs available there at reasonable prices. Lacquerware, wood and ivory carvings, paintings, jade statues, tapestries, silverware, colorful textiles, longyis, silk and cotton fabrics, and shoulder bags as well as exquisite jewelries are some of the most favorite items it has to offer. The market is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM except Mondays and gazette holidays.
National Museum
Located on Pyay Road, about a few minutes away from downtown, was founded in 1952, the five-storied museum will let you know the glory of Myanmar. Its shows 8m-high Sihasana (Lion's Throne), which is belonged to King Thibaw Min, who was the last Myanmar King. The great throne is made of"Yamanay" timber created with lions at its base. The whole throne is gilded. And other the Lion Throne, the Elephant Throne, the Royal Regalia, manuscripts was displayed. It exhibits the Lion Throne of the last Myanmar king, royal regalia of 19th century Myanmar kingdom, artifacts of various ancient periods, articles of cultural heritage and archaeological value, art and craft articles, weaponry, musical instruments and paintings. Visitor can see miniature models of the eight kinds of thrones of ancient Myanmar kings and the magnificent Royal Lion Throne of our last monarch King Thibaw in all its original majesty. Other found artifacts from Burma's early history.
Myanmar Gems Museum
The Gems Museum located in the Kaba Aye Pagoda road which is well worth visiting. This three-storey Gems Museum, the jewellery shops are located on the first floor and second floor, while the museum is on the third floor. The gems fair and auction are held here attracts many jewel dealers from all over the world in March and October held twice a year. The world’s largest pearl, shining nuggets of star sapphires, luscious golden pearls, rare sparkling pigeon's blood rubies, period and a variety of assorted colored stones, slabs of precious jade that come in various sizes and shades, pearls in lots or embedded in gold ware, silverware and jade figurines are found in wonderful Gems Museum. These are sold in Myanmar Kyats, US$ or Foreign Exchange Certificates (FEC).
Downtown
In downtown area, you may see many colonial and religious of the city. The City Hall was designed by U Tin in 1925. The High Court was a red brick extravaganza and if was built in 1911. The Customs House was built in 1902. The Myanmar Port Authority situated on the corner of Strand Road and Panodan Street. Ministry Of Information was a four-story structure and built in 1918. The compound of the Secretariat (built in1980 and was finished 1905) along Mahabandoola Street and Bo Aung Kyaw Street. It was here in 1947 that General Aung San and five members of his cabinet were assassinated during a meeting. The CITY CIRCLE TRAIN takes three and half hours ride and you can see rural areas, stopping at numerous stations watching cigarette sellers, betel nut sellers, and fortune tellers.
Mae La Mu Pagoda
Mae La Mu Pagoda located in the suburb of Yangon. It is sculptured figures and famous for the giant images depicting Buddha’s earlier lives. The Pagoda is named after the mother of King Okkalapa, who is the founder of the city Yangon.
Pansodan Jetty
The jetty stands in front of the Strand Hotel. Form that jetty; you will see the daily lives of people who working or selling their local products by passing across the river from other side to the city. Visitors can across the river by low fees ferry boat about 10 minutes to return.
White Elephants
In many Asian Countries including Myanmar , white elephants is regarded as a supreme royal ornament. And in Yangon , the pagoda is called Kyauk Taw Gyi Pagoda and beside that pagoda, a few minutes from Minn Dhamma Hill , there is an Elephant house where the white elephants are kept.

National Races Village
National races village was built in Tarketa Township which near Yangon-Thanlyin Bridge. Hlawga Wildlife Park
The Hlawga Wildlife Park located near Mingalardon Township. And it takes about 50 minutes from downtown.The park is down 1,680 acres of land and lake. There have 90species of birds and 85 kinds of herbivorous animals. Flocks of migratory birds frequently visit to this park. The wildlife park is suite for naturalists, picnickers, botanists, bird-watchers. Visitors can also enjoy by elephant riding, boating and fishing in the park.
Htauk Kyant World War II Cemetery
It is located at Ktauk Kyant and on the way to Bago and about 32km from Yangon. There is a memorial cemetery of Allied soldiers who died in the Burma Campaign during World War II. There has honorably kept 27,000 tombstones of fallen Common Wealth and Allied soldiers. It is a calm, peaceful place and beautifully tended.
Twente
Twente is a small town and it is situate on the bank of artificial canal. By ferry boat, short time across to Yangon River and its takes about 40km from Yangon. Twente is famous for works pottery and cotton-weaving industries. Visitors can observe the real place of rural life and colorful community. Shwemawdaw and Baungdawchoke pagoda are historic or interesting and that pagodas stand near Twente. For river cruises information, the RV Mahaythi has daily (min 2 pax departure) to Twante.
Pottery
Twante has many major pottery works are famous. They make pottery a number of small households churn to supplement their agricultural income. The pottery products are sold in the town’s market, and they also transported products to the other parts of the country for sale.
Thanlyin (Syriam)
Thanlyin lays 30minutes from Yandon and about 40 minutes by ferry boat across the Bago River its surroundings offers many attractions. The town was a main port and main trading centre in 14th to 18th century. Once a trading port occupied by the Portuguese in early 17th Century. He made Thanlyin to his own base and siding Mom in their struggle against the Burmese. King Alaunpaya destroyed Thanlyin in 1758. There are two tombs of Minister Padetha Raza and the great solider –poet Natshin Naung. The old buildings still stand in evidence of the days of Portuguese occupation. Kyaik-Khauk Pagoda and Kyauktan Pagoda are worth visiting.
Kyaik Hmaw Won Yele Pagoda
Yele Pagoda is located at Kyauktan Quarter and about 7 miles from Thanlyin. It is means that that pagoda exists at the center of the river on a small island. Visitors can visit nearby local fish market.
Kyaik Kauk Pagoda
The Kyaik Kauk Pagoda was situated on the way to Kyauk Tan. The Pagoda was look like the great Shwe Dagon pagoda.
Bago
Bago is located far about 50 miles (80km) from Yangon. The King Bayintnaung was built the second Myanmar Empire, an ancient city of the Mon Kings in 14th to 16th century. The pretty town of Bago is one of Myanmar’s leading attractions and richest archaeological sites to spend time. The landmark of Bago is the antique wall and moat. Also known as Bago, the town is famous for the great historical curio things. The visitors can see a large collection of sacred Buddha images, making it one of the country’s holiest sites. Just 40 miles to the east is one of Myanmar’s most prominent landmarks also known as Golden Rock (Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda) its 5.5 meter high and top of the pagoda covered with gold leaf.The old capital and palace was reconstructed in1990. Bago is situated between forested mountains and Sitaung River to the east and surrounded by paddy fields, good to explore to get real feel of Myanmar.
History
According to the legend, two Mon princess (Thumala and Wimala) from Thaton founded Bago in 13th century. Bago is the main capital of the Mon kingdom. The site of Bago is the important role in the history of Mon land and Myanmar before being destroyed by the King Alaung Paya in1757. The King Bodaw Paya rebuilt the Bago in (1782-1819). The king Razadrit, Queen Shin Saw Pu, the Buddhist monk Dhamazadi and King Bayintnaung are the grate ruler kings of Bago dynasty. During under King Dhamazdi, Bago became the center of commerce and Theravada Buddhism.
Shwemawdaw Pagoda
Shwe Maw Daw Pagoda, the Golden God Temple, holds the record for the tallest pagoda in country about 115 meter high. The annual festival of this pagoda is 10 day celebrated in the Burmese month of Tagu. It was destroyed several times due to earthquake and rebuilt higher. This pagoda was built by Mon. The additions to the temple include the bell from King Dhamazadi and the crown from King Bayintnaung. Many handicrafts and traditional lacquer wear shop can see in Shwe Maw Daw Pagoda.

Shwe Tha Lyaung Pagoda
Shwe Tha Lyaung pagoda is situated west side of Bago. The Buddha is 55 meter long and 16 meter high, the second largest Buddha in the world. The Mon king Megadipa was built in 994 AD. The Buddha image was rediscovered in the jungle for 125 years in 1880, during British colonial rule.
Kyaik Pun Pagoda
Kyaik Pun Pagoda is a little far from Bago. The pagoda is four sitting great elephantine Buddha statue. It is 27 meter high statue in four positions and was built by King Dhamazadi in 1476 AD. The visitors also interested that place.
Kanbawza Thadi Palace
In 1556, the King Bayintnaung was built that palace consists of 76 apartments and halls. In 1990,the palace was reconstructed because of burned down in 1599. Nowadays that palace is almost 100 percent finished. The visitors can taste of Myanmar kings’ ancient life style.
Moe Yun Gyi Wetland
It is located in the Waw township of Bago far about 70 miles from Yangon. The Moe Yun Gyi wetland area is 40 square miles and established in 1986. Millions of birds are fly from north to south along the east Asian. The visitors can see 125 species of water bird they are flyaway to escape from winter of Australian. November to March season is the nice to visit. And then, the beautiful flora, fauna and lovely local people’s lifestyle are the most attractive sites and real paradise for nature lovers and holiday makers.
Kyaik Hti Yoe
The Golden Rock Pagoda is one of wonder for our country. It is about 210 km far from Yangon. The Kinpun village is far 16 km from the base of Mt.Kyaikhtiyoe. The Golden Rock Pagoda is the very quiet and peaceful place to meditative and popular tourist attraction in Mon State. This pagoda is located near Kyaikhto in Mon State and situated at an elevation of 3600 ft above the sea level. It is on the Paung Laung ridge of the Eastern Yoma Mountains. The Pagoda is most ancient and has many legends about “Nats” or “spirits”.
During October to February is the proper season to go visit there. In winter season, peak of the mountain is covered with thick mist. In full moon day of Tabaung, there have the candle lighting festival. Pilgrimages are worshiped with “ninety thousand” candle lighting to Buddha during this festival. Along the side of the mountain visitors can see the many roadside stall, they are selling handmade products especially making with bamboo. There have numerous mountains to pass through about thirty three hills, seven and a half miles on foot. The visitors can feel very enjoy experience and peacefulness. “Yate” mountain have bus terminal join with main city, shop, restaurants, gift shop and guest house.
From Yate mountain is far 1.2 km up to Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda. Another transportation service also have for walkers it is “sedan chairs” make with bamboo chair, the visitors can sit on the chair and the four porters will lift it. This experience is very unique and fantastic. Another achievement is sunset view from top of the mountain. The sun light reflect from Golden Rock pagoda, it’s so brilliant color and really beautiful. Golden Rock pagoda is the one of the most popular destination in Myanmar so I am sure you can feel the difference feeling compare with other destinations.
Kyauk Htet Gyi pagoda, Mok Soe Taung pagoda and Kyikan Pazat pagoda are also interesting places in Golden Rock Pagoda.
History
In the legend, the Buddha gave a strand of his hair to Taik Tha (a Hermit). The hermit is save it safely into the tuft of his hair and gave to the King. The King is very powerful because his father is an alchemist and mother is a dragon princess. He had found the huge rock at the bottom of the sea and carried it on the top of the mountain. They used the boat for transport the rock and it is turned to the rock. It is known as the Kyaik Than Ban pagoda or stone boat stupa. In 574 BC, the pagoda was built. From now it is over 2500 years ago. This huge stone weight is 668 tons and 22 feet in height. The pagoda is 7 meter height and alls are made with rock. The pagoda is also hit by earthquake so many times but it still has on top. The Golden Rock Pagoda is really awesome and unique features in the world.

Taungoo
Taungoo is the eastern part of Bago Division and the entrance of Bago Yoma (Bago's mountain range). It is located 175 miles (220kms) from Yangon and beside of Yangon - Mandalay highway road (6-7 hours drive from Yangon, 4-5 hours from Bago). Taungoo is usually one night stop on your way to Kalaw or to Mandalay. The major attractive point of Taungoo is Elephant camp where you can see for the daily work of Elephant. Taungoo is also known as Kaytumadi City and it was founded by King Mingyinyo in 1510 AD and later rebuilt again by King Mine Kyawhtin. Tabinshwehti and Bayinnaung are victories of Mingyinyo to found the largest empire in the history of Southeast Asia. In 1539 Tabinshwehti shifted to Pegu(Bago), so, Taungoo's permanence as a capital is a moment. The products of Taungoo are: Rice, Sunflower, Suger-cane, Durian, Betel-nuts, Banana, Rubber, Beans, Peas and other cereals.

Elephant camp is located in the heart of Bago Yoma mountain ranges, Taungoo. Just one hour drive from Taungoo to the gate of the forest. Shwesandaw Pagoda
One of the significant destinations of Taungoo is Shwesandaw Pagoda. In the heart of city center of Taungoo and western part of Taungoo. It was built in 1597, and there have so many of absorbing things are there in compound.
Pyay (Prome)
Pyay formerly known as Prome, is a town and district of the Bago Division in Lower Myanmar, is an important commercial center for trade inside the Ayeyarwaddy Delta. It longs 161km (179 miles) north of Yangon, you can travel with a highway car and train. By train which runs daily from Yangon on the first railway line built in Myanmar 1877. Pyay is amply in historical significant and archaeological sites while serving as an important commercial center between the Ayeyarwady Delta, central and upper Myanmar and the Rakhine state.
The meaning of "Pyay" is "country", and represented to the ruins of the Pyu capital of Sri Ksetra or Thayekhittaya, which is located 8 km to the southeast of modern Pyay. It was the capital of the Pyu from the 5th until the 15th Century. Excavation work is being carried out at Beikthano near present day Beikthano to verify the site of the previous capital.

Akauk Taung
"Ahkauktaung” which was the custom port in the ancient time, is known for its carving on the cliff along the river and the west bank of Ayeyarwaddy River. It's enough two hours by car from Pyay. Numerous Buddha statues of different size and posture bended on the rocky bank of the river are famous. On the way back may stop over at Myoma village where you will find a tradition handloom weaving process.
Shwesandaw Pagoda
Shwesandaw means "The Golden Hair Relice", situated on the eastern bank of Ayeyarwaddy River. It has a height of 127 feet high and standing on the plinth making a total measurement of 290 feet from the bottom. There are 64 surrounding smaller pagodas around the main one. There is a swivel in the southern sector of the platform housing a duplicate of the Buddha's tooth relic of Kandy. Having been placed beside the original tooth-relic of Kandy for a time it is believed to have concentrate the aura of the original and become just as probability. The tooth-relic from the Shwesandaw Pagoda is customarily taken out from its swivel in the month of Dazaungmone (November-December) every year and ceremoniously taken on a tour of the city once every three years so that worshippers might pay homage to it and revere it with their own eyes.
Sehtetgyi Pagoda
Sehetetgyi Pagoda is a gigantic sitting Buddha Statue. Sehtatgyi meaning ‘Big Ten-storey’ for its height.Looking east from the stupa you’ll see an enormous seated Bhudda figure rising up from the tree line.
Bawbawgyi Paya and Bebe Paya
Bawbawgyi Paya is cylindrical shape and Bebe Paya is cube-shape. It drives about 06 hours long from Yangon. In Pyay, the brick and plaster of Bawbawgyi Paya is the oldest stupa. Other cube-shaped pagodas in the area include one thought to have been used by an anchorite featuring eight Buddha reliefs along the lower half of the interior wall and a vaulted canopy of brick.
ShweMyatMhan Pagoda
Most attractive pagoda in Pyay is Shwemyatmhan Pagoda. Shwemyethman Pagoda means the Golden Spectacles a reference to a large white face sitting Buddha image inside the main shrine. The Buddha image wears golden spectacles. Spectacles were added during the Konbaung era. This pagoda is most attractive in the town.
Shwenattaung Paya
Shwenattaung Paya means 'Golden Spirit Mountain'. This pagoda dates back to the Sriksetra era.
Legend takes it back all the way to 283 BC from which it was reconstructed by a long grade of Burman kings with the succor of local nats (spirits).
Paung Te
Paung Te located from Yangon on the way to Pyay, you will come across Paung Te. The exalted tooth relic of Buddha is enshrined in the Paung Te Swedaw Seddi.
